Hot Fun!

It’s the time of the season for heat. The monsoons have evaporated for the last week or two. It’s 94 today, suppose to be 100 on Sunday. I wonder what the temp spike will do for my cultivators but also look forward to a mountain get-away from the heat wave next week.

Buttered Popcorn, Anyone?

It’s odd to only have one first-of-the-season bloom on a day like today. But, perhaps a good day to think about Buttered Popcorn. Or maybe it is just that it is 5:30 already and I am getting hungry. Too hot to walk the dogs for an hour or so. Dinner is a ways off. Buttered popcorn – YES! Can I DoorDash that? LOL.

Daylily Photography Processes and Improvements

I am curious what other daylily photographers are using for their photos. I use to use my Canon Powershot and had no complaints. Except, I had to download the photos and edit them to upload them to my online drive. As my daylily collection grew, my time for photo editing shrunk.

I then shifted to my Kindle for a year or two because of the large screen for focus. It worked OK, but was an awkward size and getting the photos to the online drive was still a pain.

Now, I use my Samsung Galaxy A52. The camera is decent. I honestly don’t see much difference between it and the Canon for my purposes, and I think it is better than the Kindle. It’s easy to upload to my online drive, share to social media, and even blog from my phone (although I prefer my PC for blogging.) Since I use my photos as a tracking method and daylily art reference, I find it adequate and time-efficient. I’m not after super high-quality photographic images to sell.

A Little Something Different

I went to take my daylily photos this morning and my camera did not cooperate.  Dead battery.  The hazard to being addicted to daylilies, I suppose.  It’s my summer road trip this year, though.  So, time to savor it!

Today was different because my daughter and grandkids are in town for a couple of days.  Tonight, swimming.  Tomorrow, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  And, so for today, a short blog.

The new kid today is one called Fairy Tale Pink.  It looks more peach in the sunlight.  I love the lines coming from the throat.  It is a unique addition to the batch.

Today was Zuni Thunderbird’s last bloom.  I fell in love with this whimsical bloom for some reason.  I am definitely painting this one.

So, dead battery.  What’s a photographer to do?  I substituted with my Kindle for the early photos and used some of the filters that I have on my photoshop app.  I’ve been wanting to do that.  And, the hour is late . . .

Focus on Daylilies

I went camping this weekend.  It’s my semester break from my doctoral program.  However, I am teaching a class and implementing my project.  So, it was a quick get away.  I came home to find that I had missed Chief Four Fingers and Early Bird Cardinal’s first blooms.  However, Happy Returns had two blossoms to greet me.

As always, I ran out with my Canon Powershot and my Kindle to get a shot.  After that, I went in to download my vacation pictures.  On the same card are my first camera versions of the photos that I have shared here.  I thought  would do a couple of comparisons.

Below is my first bloom, Electric Lizard. The first one is by Kindle, the second with the Powershot.

I paint my Christmas gifts from the photos, so detail and color are important.  Still, I am on a student budget until I return to work.  So these are my options.  The Kindle does a decent job for something that I can post immediately.  However, the Canon sure has crisper detail.

I welcome any thoughts experiences readers have had with photographing these beauties.  I am hopeful for another bloom or two very soon.
