I have no idea where to even start with premiers. I’m buried in catching up with daylily photos. I’ll give it a shot. Thank heaven I post to Facebook every day. Sometimes I do miss things, though.

7.11: Lobo Lucy, Laughing Feather, Happy Hopi, Chokecherry Mountain, Apache Uprising, and Soco Gap

7.14: Ruby Stella, Hesperus, Orange Flurry, Purple Many Faces, Kachina Dancer, Kiva Dancer, Cherokee Star, Papa Long Legs, Western Sandstone, Classy Lady, One of my new OZ daylilies that need labels (I believe).

7.15: Glen Eyrie, Scorpio, Route 66, Fooled Me, Echo Canyon, Twirling Pinata, Medicine Feather, Star Over Milgro, Black Ice, Winds of Love, Nearly Wild, Rosie’s Red, Mildred Mitchell, Fairytale Pink, and Navajo Rodeo

And, whatever I missed. And, my one bud on Lacy Doily bloomed when I was gone. So, if lighting strikes but no one is in earshot, is there thunder? Yes. To the bees and butterflies.

I need a stiff drink before I finish. Lol. That’s 31 new faces since I posted on Sunday. Sometimes, I wish we could flatten the curve of peak a little. Gonna be crazy for a bit.

Sunday Morning Creeping Like a Nun

I guess even #daylilygardens need a #dayofrest – less than half of yesterday’s number but so many still unbloomed. Only 3 premiers. I’ll probably have hell to pay tomorrow. And, I’m leaving to go camping for a couple days.

I spent my afternoon wrapping houseplants for my Etsy shop so was glad for the break.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

The last week has been grunge work of stripping Porch Restore off my old cement steps and porch for repainting. You have to pour boiling water on Porch Restore to remove it. It’s grueling work. And, I don’t start until I’m done with the daylilies.

I finally put everything away for the night and was getting ready to walk the dogs when a little rain cell blew in. It brought a full rainbow over my Southwest Visions garden. Nice end to the day.

I had some nice premiers today. Let’s take a peek:

Chief Four Fingers with three fingers-7.9 (Ned Roberts spider #20)

There are lots of Neds left. I think all but 2 or 3 plants in the Southwest Visions garden will bloom. Some have tons of scapes, others only 1 scrawny scape. It’s just slow this year.

We will see what pots of hold at the end of the rainbow bloom tomorrow.

Happiness is Like a Butterfly

On With the Show, This is It!

As the garden rapidly accelerates to peek, I look around to see my lawn that needs mowing, my hedge that needs clipped. Oh, but the daylilies have been rehearsing for the show for months. How can I ignore them? I need a be 3 people in July.

Bunches of premiere blooms today. Where to start. Two new Ned Roberts spiders, Cheyenne Eyes and Navajo Rodeo.

I divided Cheyenne Eyes last fall and she struggled this spring. She produced 1 shore scape with 2 buds. At least I’ll see a couple of blooms.

Navajo Rodeo has not bloomed in at least a couple of years. Before that, she was reliable. Good to have her back.

The Colorado Kid, our blog namesake bloomed. She is one of my favorite near blues!

Holy Sombrero is a fun, huge yellow bloom. Nice bonus daylily several years ago.

Catherine Irene, same name as my momma, bloomed today.

Lullaby Baby, a sweet pastel color, was another new face.

Strutter’s Ball also showed up to the dance.

If I keep getting 5-7 new ones/day, it will quickly crescendo. A week, maybe. Lol, I’ll be camping. But, only miss 2 full days. On with the show, this is it!

Four Eyes

I have 100s of scapes. They are everywhere. Like little aliens running through the garden.

But, today only brought four new “eyes” to the 2022 blooming cultivators.

Bluegrass Music hasn’t bloomed in a couple years. One of my first near blues – except she is very purple. I just had to have her! And, some grower charged me $50 for 2 scrawny fans.

The others were reds and oranges. Today, I saw a post from 10 years ago on Facebook memories about Ruby Spider’s first bloom. I just loved the huge bloom. Ten years ago, I had like 5 daylilies. Crazy.

Still waiting for all hell to break loose. Tomorrow is another day.

Staying engaged after the peak

I’m back, but only to catch up on finales since Sunday. Once school starts next week, it seems like the daylilies fade in my mind a little. But, this year I am semi-retired so hoping to stay a bit engaged. Last year, I did that huge 70+ buried pot repotting. That was 4 weekends of work and nearly ran into freeze. So, I suppose you could call that engaged.

This year’s project is to re-organize some of my less favorite/poor bloomers with some new cultivators. I just purchased Singing in the Sunshine, Irish Handshake, Ghost Ranch (more fans because I only have one), Off to See the Wizard, Memories of Oz, Sea Panther, Ruby Slippers, Blue Flirt, Wildwood Flower (mine died a couple years ago), and (maybe) another fan of Coyote Laughs (I am not sure the one I have is actually Coyote Laughs). That is 9 or 10 more, but I will be selling some of mine that I am eliminating. I also may do a big pot of leftovers – I have one that does great! I am amazed because it is soooo crowded.

Chaco Canyon – Finale 8.4. Bloomed from 6.27 to today – good year for this one!

I have several with only a few (if that) buds left. I think the closing daylilies this year will be Purple Corn Dancer, Navajo Curls, Purple Thunderbird and Adios Albuquerque. Will they last until September? Will there be an August surprise scape on a non-bloomer?

Happy Birthday, Colorado!

Today is Colorado Day! My home state is 145 years old today! I remember when it was 100 and I was 21, but we won’t go there.

Today, before my one premier, I want to talk about my CO namesake daylilies. I am going to start with Cripple Creek, because she was in bloom today.

Echo Canyon – blooming earlier this year. There are several Echo Canyons in CO, so it is a guess that Ned Roberts named her with Colorado in mind.

Glen Eyrie in bloom last week. That name is Colorado through and through.

Mesa Verde – in bloom earlier this month and also 100% Colorado. We were there last weekend, actually.

Rocky Mountain Pals was named for a healthcare team in Colorado.

The Colorado Kid – our name sake. Definite Colorado ties here!

That’s a nice batch of daylilies to celebrate Colorado’s 145th BD.

Now, on to our (likely) next to last premier. I only have Adios Albuquerque left unless we get an August Surprise. I love Navajo Curls. She looks like melting butter to me. An awesome late bloomer with a ton of buds.

I’m blogged out for the moment but I will be back after a short break – later this week. Despite having over 2 dozen in bloom today, we have a lot of finales brewing.

July Daylily Roundup A-M

The next two posts are a listing of the daylilies that have bloomed ANYTIME during July – even if they started in June. It is a large list but also a colorful one. I believe only 3 of my cultivators were totally done in June – Saratoga Springtime, Scorpio and yellow Stella de Oro.

If you like Ned Roberts cultivators, you have come to the right place because I have about 70 of them, and most (except Navajo Curls and Adios Albuquerque) that are going to bloom the year have bloomed sometime during July.

I went to the rodeo here last night, so I am all practiced-up and ready to go.
